Welcome to the Patch!
I'm so excited to introduce Polly's Pumpkin Patch Sew Along. This quilt block collection features all the fun of a breezy fall day visit to a country pumpkin patch. Each appliqué block will reveal a bit more about the farm. There will be lots of happy sunflowers and pumpkins, whimsical farm scenes and a few critter friends along the way... and not to be forgotten, Miss Polly!
Polly's Pumpkin Patch is part of my free monthly block pattern give-away. Join the fun as we start this fun sew-along! to learn more about this collection, fabric requirements for the full quilt, block release schedule and how to get free patterns, please read the Polly's Pumpkin Patch - Start Here" Blog. ➡️HERE
Now lets get our first views of the patch...
#1 Pumpkin Patch Welcome

Stitching Tips
- There are lots of small pieces in this design, but most are not too intricate with mostly gently curves and straight lines.
- Consider using a directional fabric for the fence and poles. This could be wood print or a fine stripe like a used. I think it really defines the horizontal and vertical shapes.
- Look closely at my gate. The vertical lines are not part of the fabric. I didn't have a brown print with wide stripes and I wanted it to look like boards. The lines you see were drawn on with a brown permanent marking pen. I did this on the fabric patch before I prepared or stitched the patch in place. (Note: Always test markers for bleeding and permanency.)
- Notice my teal sign with red letters. I wanted to add a pop of color beyond the "fall colors" so I chose teal. All my blocks with have touches of teal to tie everything together. You might want to add a color such as teal, or blue, or...?

Now it's time to meet Miss Polly...
#2 Miss Polly Scarecrow
Scaring away the birds is not her way. Miss Polly is friends with all critters. Instead, she spends her days chatting with the birds and humming sweet lullabies to the pumpkins.
Stitching Tips
- I am making all my birds out of the same 2 fabrics, one for the bodies, one for the wings. There will be birds in all the blocks. If you want the birds to look like they are all the same kind, use the same fabrics or color family.
- Have fun with Polly's apron and dress. I wanted it to look a bit old-fashioned. This is a good place for that pop of color we talked about. Or, how about a bright colorful hat!
