Welcome to Petal & Vine Sew-Along
This collection is a whimsical quilt composed of sixteen blocks, each featuring its own fanciful flower surrounded by twirling, curling vines. It has simple pieced backgrounds and large appliqué pieces making it maker friendly.
Petal & Vine is part of my free monthly block pattern give-away. To learn more about this collection, fabric requirements for the full quilt, block release schedule, how to get free patterns and more, please read the Petal & Vine - Start Here" Blog. ➡️HERE
This month we are stitching blocks 7 & 8. Let's take a look....
Block 7

Block 8

Stitching Tips
- When choosing fabrics for a flower such as the one in block 7, I try to pick a variety of shades within a color. I personally don't mind lots of different prints and textures, but I mainly look at the shades. I choose the darker shades for the petals that appear the furthest away or that are in shadow (these are usually the patches that go down first.) Next, are medium shades. These are the petals that are a bit closer or are getting a bit more sun. Lastly are the lightest or brightest shades. These are the top layer, those that are the closest to you, or are getting full sun. Sometimes these can be a very light shade, sometimes you may want to use something a bit brighter. "Playing" with the values will give you a flower with more depth.
- The petals in block 8 are all about the same depth. To give interest to these petals, try using different shades in no particular order and include a variety of prints for texture. By doing this, you can see individual petals.
