Welcome to Petal & Vine Sew-Along
This collection is a whimsical quilt composed of sixteen blocks, each featuring its own fanciful flower surrounded by twirling, curling vines. It has simple pieced backgrounds and large appliqué pieces making it maker friendly.
Petal & Vine is part of my free monthly block pattern give-away. To learn more about this collection, fabric requirements for the full quilt, block release schedule, how to get free patterns and more, please read the Petal & Vine - Start Here" Blog. ➡️HERE
This month we are stitching blocks 5 & 6. Let's take a look....

Stitching Tips
(Note: Some tips you may have read before, but I felt repeating could be helpful.)
- On inner curves, makes clips half way into the seam allowance approximately every 1/8" or so in the curved area. This will make the seam allowance fold under easily and lay flat. Do not clip outer curves.
- Keep seam allowances narrow, a scant 1/4" or less. This is especially important in "pointy" areas. If seam allowances are wide, there is no where for the fabric to go in those narrow points, which makes it very difficult to get a "pointy" tip. You can trim these areas down to even 1/8".
- The center of Block 5 flower can be made using the same method used to make circles. Make a template. Cut out fabric with full 1/4 seam allowance. Baste near outside edge of cut fabric patch. Pull thread to gather around template. Press.
