Block 6 is made up of the appliqué portion and one strip at the bottom. Complete instructions for making Block 6 are found in the pattern. In this month's blog I'll share a few extra tips for making the block as well as a few close-up images.
I love the reindeer.
- The leg patches are a bit skinny but not too difficult. Keep your seam allowances fairly narrow, about 3/16". (That's a little less than 1/4").
- On inner curved areas, make small clips close together, extending half-way into the seam allowance. This will allow the seam allowance to lay flat and fabric to fold tightly to the template edge when pressed over. Inner points need a single deeper clip. Before clipping, apply a small dot of Fray Check in the seam allowance point near the template. This will help keep fabric from fraying. Allow Fray Check to dry, then clip into the point, stopping a few threads from the freezer paper template.
- I embroidered the deer antlers using a chain stitch with 2 strands of embroidery floss. If you choose to embroider the antlers using an outline stitch, I recommend using 3 strands of floss or size 8 pearl cotton to make the lines a little thicker.
- I opted not to applique the deer hoofs as they would be very small. I made the deer legs to include the hoof portion, then embroidered with a satin stitch over the patch to make the hoof. You could also use permanent fabric markers to fill in the area.
- No carrot nose on this guy, just simple eyes.
- You may need to line the snowman body as described in the blog for block one. Read it ➡️HERE.

Any block with reindeer is a block I love. I don’t know what little yellow birds are around in winter. Please tell me if anyone knows. They do add a pop of needed color nicely.
